Severe threat slowly diminishes tonight, but showers and storms remain possible

A warm and sunny start to Saturday turned stormy this afternoon. Scattered showers and storms bubbled up this afternoon and more are possible tonight. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch that was issued earlier has been trimmed back to include just southern portions of the viewing area. The Watch will likely expire at 9 pm Showers and a few more storms are expected overnight as well. Saturday is an impact weather day, with the Storm Prediction Center outlining part of our viewing area in the ‘slight’ risk category. Gusty winds, torrential rains and some small hail will be possible in any storm that develops. A cold front will continue to slowly move into our area Saturday night and overnight which will trigger additional thunderstorm activity. However, the severe threat overnight will be minimal. The cold front will then crash temperatures on Sunday, highs will only be in the upper 60s and 70s.
