Patriots, Panthers players brawl again during joint practice

Players were ejected after a brawl interrupted the joint practice of the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers for the second consecutive day. Fans watching the practice said the scuffle pushed into the stands.”Christian McCaffrey got a late hit from Deatrich Wise and then just kind of spiked the ball at wise,” said Patriots fan Wesley Gopfert. “(A woman) was sitting in the front row and she was taking a video, and no one thought they would come over to the fans, and she just got trampled by all of them. She took it like a champ though. still taking the video and then she watched the rest of camp.”Both Patriots and Panthers players apologized to the fan who got hurt in the scuffle. Reporters noted that tempers had begun to flare a few plays earlier when Patriots wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson was injured during a kickoff return. He needed help off the field. Boston Globe Reporter Ben Volin observed on Twitter that Wilkerson was tackled hard by Panthers defensive back Kenny Robinson and that Patriots wide receiver Matthew Slater and special teams coordinator Cameron Achord were “heated” afterward. ESPN’s Mike Reiss tweeted that “Patriots players seemed to take exception to a Panther standing over” Wilkerson. Both teams huddled up separately after the brawl, Reiss also said.”Never seen it get to this point in any joint practice with the Patriots in Bill Belichick’s tenure (2000-present),” Reiss wrote. PFF reporter Doug Kyed tweeted that Robinson was ejected from practice along with Patriots defensive end Deatrich Wise and Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard. Several players were kicked out of the teams’ joint practice on Tuesday after a pair of fights between the two teams.”It’s what happens when we’re competing and trying to get better,” Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker said Tuesday. “Things are going to happen, but we’ve got to keep on going to the next play.”The Patriots and Panthers are scheduled to face each other in a preseason game at Gillette Stadium on Friday at 7 pm
