Sheriff’s Office: One person missing after boat capsizes on Lake Red Rock

One person is missing after a boat capsized on Lake Red Rock around 4 pm Saturday, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. It happened southeast of Runnells. The boat overturned with three people on board, Sheriff Jason Sandholdt reported. According to Sandholdt, two people made it to shore. Rescue teams are looking for a third individual who has been identified as 34-year-old Dustin Lee Dittmer of Colfax. Crews spent hours searching the Des Moines River both by boat and land on Saturday night. The water search was suspended Saturday night and resumed at 8:30 am on Sunday. Those agencies include Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DNR, Knoxville City Fire and Rescue, Marion County Emergency Management, Pleasantville Fire and Rescue, Runnells Fire and Rescue, Hartford Fire Department, Pleasant Hill Fire Department and Prairie City Ambulance and Fire. Many friends, family and volunteers have also aided in the search effort. In a release on Sunday, Sheriff Sandholdt asks the public “to please keep the family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, especially his mother and step-mother today on Mother’s Day.”More news:
