Guns confiscated at Foothill High School, Downey High School

Students at two Northern California schools were taken into custody on Monday for bringing guns on campus. A student at Foothill High School in Sacramento County was detained after having a firearm on campus on Monday, according to the Twin Rivers Unified School District.“Due to the quick actions of staff at Foothill High School, a firearm was confiscated from a student after the student attempted to leave the school office during questioning and a search,” district spokesperson Zenobia J. Gerald said. There are no indications that the student ever brandished the weapon. The school was put on lockdown for a time on Monday morning but classes have since returned to normal. Mental health experts are being sent to the school site for students and staff. “Weapons of any kind are never permitted on our campuses and there are serious consequences for students who are found in possession of a weapon,” Gerald said . “We are grateful to the quick actions of our staff and law enforcement this morning.” Meanwhile, in Modesto, a student was detained for bringing a gun to campus at Downey High School, the city’s school district said. The school had received an anonymous report about a student being in possession of a weapon in that case. Modesto police said the student was arrested and taken to juvenile hall. He was charged with bringing a gun to school and for carrying a concealed gun.
